Slovenske narodne jedi II (Slovenian National Dishes II) bears an ironic title for several reasons; first, there is Alenka Grum's book of the same name, which somehow depicts the concept of Slovenian national dishes, second is "our" concept of the word national and its concept remains unclear to Slovenes even today, third reason could be that the conception of nationality is a matter of the individual, local affiliation, region, influences, eating habits, customs and rituals, etc. In the master's thesis I’m trying to depict what Slovenian national dishes are - as a signifier and what could be their signified, how is the signifier understood by members of an imagined community and whether it is common to them? I found an example of a research in the work of Daniel Miller and Jernej Mlekuž, who are engaged in the study of material culture, while food is part of a material culture with a short shelf life with distinct symbolism. I also used my study of national dishes in "practice" and co-creation of a restaurant serving Slovenian dishes made from Slovenian ingredients and belonging to the "grandmother's kitchen" category.
