In my master's thesis I point out the question of authenticity in the context of contemporary popular music. Through introductory research of a term »popular music«, its history and placement in s cultural space I find the question of relationship between man and techology especially important. The latter is constantly introducing new expressive possibilities for musicians, especially with its developement from the 20th century on. That results in altered historical relationship between musician and listener and opens up various questions regarding authenticity of expression. I briefly introduce the philosophical tradition of a term »authenticity« that plays central role in today's popular music. Through analysis of contemporary slovenian popular music I am aiming to find essential conditions for constructions of authenticity in different musical contexts. It reveals to me as a complex concept that takes place at the junction of various cultural, socio-economic forces and personal preferences.
