Thesis deals with the problem of borrowing the names of countries, which is a very dynamical process. The Commission for the Standardization of Geographical Names of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia (Komisija za standardizacijo zemljepisnih imen Vlade RS, KSZI) keeps up to date in the world of official names in Slovene. We observe the emergence of new names (and new countries) and changing of existing names. Both linguistic and sociolinguistic factors must be considered, which illustrates the problematic cases of the names of these countries: Northern Macedonia, Moldova, Eswatini, East Timor, Ivory Coast, Burma / Myanmar and San Marino.
