The purpose of B. Sc. Thesis was to present four important indicators of dog welfare. One of them is canine body language, the other is related to the needs dogs have as a wolf descendent and the third is related to the dog’s behaviour especially the occurrence of aggression. The fourth is related to dog nutrition. Pain affects indicators of welfare in dogs, so it’s important to know the ways in which animals’ pain can be identified. The dog observes the expression on the face (mimic) and the position of other parts of the body (gesture) in the other dog, thereby obtains information about his mood and overall welfare. Therefore it is important for a person to learn and understand the body language of a dog and explore those unique indicators that are easy to assess and describe for dogs’ welfare. In the importance of socialization as an indicator of welfare, in addition to the time spent alone by the dog, it is necessary to focus on his social environment. The lack of socialization can lead to behaviour anomalies as is aggression. The fourth indicator described in the B. Sc. Thesis is related to the body mass of the dog, which shows how optimal nutrition we provide for our dog and it depends on dog’s breed and his daily activity. If we look at these indicators as a whole, which is only right, we can optimally assess the individual dog’s welfare at home on our couch, on dog show or in shelter.
