In this Bachelor’s degree we examined the basic definition and purpose of children’s play and children’s toys. We researched Slovenian wooden toy producers and listed some selected and innovative toys. In this work we wanted to show some methods for the good and permanent use of biomass of alien wooden species, and to warn about the effects of using such species in our country. We carried out a survey about the importance of the materials that a toy is made of and the characteristics of a good wooden toy. Some questions were related to wooden toys in general (such as opinions about the offer of wooden toys on the market, their price and other shopping criteria) and some about wooden toys made of alien wooden species. Based on the results we came to the conclusions that toys made of alien wooden species are good, and that the interviewers have positive opinions about them. We designed eight children’s toys made of alien wooden species and made few of them in a woodworking workshop. The designs focused on the safety, function, didactic and aesthetic components of the toys. There are currently no toys made of alien wooden species in Slovenia, so we can assume that they have great commercial potential.
