Gastrointestinal diseases are very common amongst dogs and they are characterized by various disorders and unrelated causes. There are several causes of gastrointestinal disturbances, for example, the ingestion of unsuitable fodder or foreign matter, bacterial or viral infections, parasites, allergies, etc. With proper nutrition they can be prevented or mitigated. The feed, which is less digestible and does not contain quality ingredients, is much more burdened by the dog's digestive system because it is digested for a long time. In addition, the dog must consume it in a larger quantity so that it can meet its needs. Due to the constant overload of the gastrointestinal tract with poorer quality feed, certain digestive disorders can develop. It is important to know the producer of the gastrointestinal anomaly so that we can properly select the "treatment". In the B. Sc. Thesis we described individual basic nutrients, which are important in dog nutrition and introduced the particularities in dog nutrition with gastrointestinal diseases. Then we explained the causes of individual gastointestinal diseases and their consequences. Based on the review of available literature, we can suppose that with appropriately adapted diet we can extend the lifespan of dogs with gastrointestinal diseases, improve their life quality and alleviate the symptoms of those diseases.
