In everyday life one is often faced with stereotypes and attributes on the basis of their group affiliation. Thus, there are a plethora of arbitrary and unjustified beliefs about the gender and gender roles that are attributed to a particular sex. In the case of gender stereotypes people judge based on their expectations of how specific biological sex should behave, and play their assigned sexual role. As a result, women have always shown completely different characteristics than men and perform certain roles assigned to those expectations. Some of the gender stereotypes and assigned gender roles can also be found in children's fairy tales honoured with Zlata Hruška award. Fairy tales are very important for children’s because it helps them to shape their own system of values and views and allow them a departure from reality. In this master's thesis I will explore the representation of gender roles and gender stereotypes in children's fairy tales and explore the possible impacts of these stereotypes on the child's perception of gender roles and consequently theirs behavior. Methodology will be based on study of primary and secondary literature and on discursive analysis of chosen children’s and youth books which were rewarded with mark Zlata Hruška.
