Master thesis deals with the protection of children's rights in EU and Council of Europe. Children are one of the most vulnerable group in population. They are taken into special protection, thats why special rights belong to them, which are in addition to the basic documents on the protection of human rights, are also defined in special documents such as Convention on the rights of the Child and European Convention on the Exercise of Children's Rights.
The first part of master thesis consists of representation of function of EU and Council of Europe considering human rights protection, especially protection of children's rights. Here are presented basic concepts and representatoin of development of childrens rights on international level and through Concil of Europe and EU.
In the second part of master thesis children's rights are analyzed throuhg case law of European Court of Human Rights and European Court of Justice. Case law is presented on chosen seven fields. Those are the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, the right to education, family life, the protection of children against violence and exploitation, the protection of children in criminal proceedings, discrimination, and migration and asylum. European Court of Human Rights and European Court of Justice are taking care, that childrens rights are protected with theirs decisions, in wich is assured that no further violations are made in the future.
Discussed topic represents the contribution of the comprehensive regulation of the protection of children's rights in the european countries. It is important how are the weakest in the society taken care of, beacause we can with the vigilant monitoring of the actual situation and concrete improvements contribute to the improvement in the area of children's rights. Above all, through the institutional system we take care of the supervision and, consequently, the formation of healthier conditions of coexistence in society. Public awareness and recognition of the actual situation is the first step towards improvement.
