Introduction: Colors or aesthetics are in addition to the functionality of dental products the most important factor of stomatology. But the whole process from determining the color to the finished product is complicated and complex. Experts from our field are developing new color-matching instruments to achieve better final results in terms of aesthetics. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to present the color matching systems spectrophotometer SpectroShade Micro and »White balance gray reference card« in practice, and demonstrate to colleagues that you can achieve significantly better results by using novelties rather than traditional method i.e. using shade guides. Methods: In the review of literature we used the descriptive method. We searched for literature in Slovene and English language, and it included articles in magazines as well as books. We determined the color of the teeth through practice, using both systems. On the basis of obtained data we determined the colors and made a plan for layering ceramics in order to make the color of the ceramic as similar as possible to the color given to us by a specified system. When we completed the metal-ceramic restoration using both systems, we compared the results and determined which system is more reliable and precise. Results: Described color-matching systems are, compared with the traditional shade guides, a major contribution to more aesthetic dental restorations. Based on the analysis of the tooth color, we made a metal-ceramic bridge in the sector of incisors from 12-22. In the end we compared the final results of achieved color from both systems. Discussion and conclusion: The use of a spectrophotometer, as well as a white balance gray reference card, significantly increases the aesthetic level of dental restorations. Described systems are easy to use, however, using the spectrophotometer is less time consuming. From the point of view of aesthetics white balance gray reference card is a better choice when making more complicated metal-ceramic restorations.
