Freedom of information, freedom of expression and freedom of the press are considered to be basic human rights in modern society. They are included in constitution of many countries around the world and in international conventions of human rights. Many of researches are focused on effect of democratic institution on press freedom. Considerably lesser number of researchers is dedicated to the question of correlation between development and free press. There are many indicators of press freedom, media market and journalist. The most renowned are World Press Freedom Index of organization Journalist without borders and Freedom of the Press Index of organization Freedom House. The most recognizable indicators of development are gross domestic product per capita, human development index and corruption perceptions index. In this master thesis we wanted to discover if there is correlation between development and press freedom. In conclusion, after examining correlation, we can definitely say that there is strong connection between media freedom and development indicators.
