In this study we discuss the basic physical properties of titanim and its alloys. The physical properties serve as a fundament for further welding discussion and weld quality evaluation. We discuss TIG welding procedure, and certain standard methods for obtaining weld quality information. Since welding techniques differ from welder to welder, we discuss the relation between the weld quality and welding speed in the experimental part of this study. Three samples were used, welded by TIG welding procedure. The weld qualitiy is determined by visual evaluation, tensile test, microstructure analysis and hardness testing. The results showed, that weld quality was not dependant on welding speed, since all welds had mechanical properties, that matched or exceeded those, of base material. Tensile test results showed, that tensile strength of base material was lower than tensile strength of weld.
