Theoretical part presents guidelines, principles and theory for the design and evaluation of the user interface. Based on guidelines, we have designed our own evaluation framework, which has been divided into four segments: interface and navigation, design and management of inquiries, work with results and help. With the expert study and our own framework, we evaluated five digital libraries, which also offer photographic materials. The results showed that libraries largely follow the guidelines and recommendations (e. g. use of shortcuts, consistency of terminology ...), but in some deviate (e. g. providing help, returning to the previous step ...), which can be attributed to the lack of experience of the digital library designer. Based on our evaluations of digital libraries, we created a digital library scheme of local study's photo materials, using the example of the Tone Seliškar Trbovlje library. We found that the design provides new opportunities for the development of the library. In the future, it is definitely recommended to create a functioning digital library according to design plans.
