The master's thesis deals with the flood problematics in the section through Preddvor settlement. In the settlement, the Suha torrent channel is arranged thorugh culverts, which are in terms of floodwater conveyance very problematic. In addition, before entering the settlement, the watercourse runs under a bridge opening, with inadequate hydraulic conductivity. The purpose of the project was to develop a combined hydrological and hydraulic study of the Suha torrent section, present the existing flood problematics in case of floods with a 100-year return period and to propose the flood system. We analyzed the proposal for the placement of a dry reservoir.
A hydrological study of the watercourse was made using HEC-HMS software. The result of the model was a floodplain hydrogram for a flood event with a 100-year return period. To build a hydraulic model, publicly accessible LIDAR data was combined with geodetic survey of a part of the torrent channel and processed with GIS tools. Using the Civil AutoCAD software we defined torrent channel cross-sections. The geometry of the riverbed was imported into the program Hec-RAS, the main input into the model was the hydrograph. With the hydraulic model, we first analyzed the existing flood situation and then the situation after the arrangement of the proposed dry retention area.
