The Master Thesis at hand analyses the Jure Potokar's Slovene translation of David Foster Wallace's collection of short fiction Zgodbe in two steps. In the first part, it approaches the Wallace's opus and the literature of New Sincerity in general to determine the key genre-defining specifics. These characteristics are then applied to the fundamental translation theory to presuppose the criteria and the method with which to assess the translation's adequacy. The theoretical part is followed by the empirical analysis, which exposes the problematic places by carefully reading the source and target language texts side by side. Relying on the previously formulated criteria, it divides the examples among the semantic, grammatical and stylistic errors, each accompanied by a brief explanation and a proposed solution. In the conclusion, the thesis also looks into the style of each story and thus ensures that the translation is also assessed as a whole.
