Nowadays, people connect, express and create through photography. The purpose of the diploma work was to create a series of men and women figures, composed of a combination of portrait photography and photographs of Plečnik's architecture. The aim of the diploma work was to examine the field of composite photography, to choose the right pairs of portrait and architectural photographs and to process the photos into composites.
The theoretical part of the work deals with portrait photography, describing the necessary setting for proper illumination and how to properly capture the portrait, followed by a brief presentation of the modes of composition and perspective used for architectural photography and areas of composite photography. Briefly presented are the architectural works of the architect Jože Plečnik, which are used for photography of architecture.
The experimental part represents eleven composite photographs of buildings and portraits taken with the mirror-reflex camera. Photographs include eleven different buildings, both men's and women's models, photographed with a 50mm lens and illuminated by natural light. For each portrait, another building was selected. Photographs are computer-processed, it was necessary to remove the background, to work out and correct contrast, light, highlight details, convert color photos into black and white, and to merge the picture of a male and female portrait with selected buildings for each portrait. Every photograph is evaluated by a visual analysis. Finally, there is a discussion where the similarities and differences with similar photographs of Italian photographer Francesco Paleary are included.
By combining the theoretical and experimental work, it was found that using photographic methods and computer processing, we can achieve a wonderful interweaving of living and inanimate nature, in this case, the man and the architects who live in coexistence and give life to the photographs.
