In this study, we discuss the fundamental basics of welding and the various technologies utilized to join titanium and titanium alloys. Titanium and its alloys are difficult metals to weld. Because of the high reactivity of the metal and its alloys upon being exposed to elevated temperatures, they are sensitive to contamination and oxidation. Therefore, to achieve a successful weld, it is necessary to use clean materials and provide adequate protection against atmospheric gases during the welding process. Welding these materials is possible with different technologies. However, in this study, we analyzed in detail laser welding, plasma welding, diffusion welding and electron beam welding. Titanium and titanium alloys are expensive metals, and thus they are only used in specific applications.
