Open-pit mine is a surface mining technique of extracting mineral materials from an open pit. Exploitation of the mineral resources leads to degradation of the land and thus changes in the configuration and the functionality of the area in which the mine is located. The regulations and professional ethical code require rehabilitation of the mine area as far as possible. In order to do so a professional approach and relevant technical documentation is required.
This thesis describes the rehabilitation of the open-pit mine in the light of mining project, taking into account legal and professional guidelines in mining. The contents of the project and the final rehabilitation of the open-pit Mali Medvejk, located in Municipality of Sežana, are described in detail.
Rehabilitation of the mine has to be carried out based on the relevant technical documentation which includes general information and technical solutions with security conditions. Non-hazardous construction waste as well as the soil can be used in the rehabilitation of the quarry. Materials have to be installed in a degraded area following the appropriate licenses. The final restoration of the quarry can be considered to be successful when after the completion of exploitation the area is made environmentally friendly by using biological recultivation.
