Introduction: There are various ways to reduce pain that vary according to the condition of the patient. Bioptron light therapy system is a device that emits light similar to the part of an electromagnetic spectrum produced by the sun, only without UV radiation and it is used in procedures for reducing pain. Purpose: The purpose of this bachelor`s work was to determine the effect of irradiation with polychromatic non coherent light on perceiving pain threshold with pressure and changing the temperature of the area under radiation. Methods: The study included 20 healthy subjects. Irradiation with the Bioptron light therapy system was performed in the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. Measurements with a pressure algometer and measurements with an infrared thermometer were performed to determine the perception of mechanical pain and the temperature change in the area under irradiation. Measurements were made three times, before irradiation, immediately after and 15 minutes after irradiation with the PPN radiator. For the analysis of the results, were used Microsoft Excel 2007 and MedCalc Statistical Software Results: Measurements have shown that radiation with a PPN radiator is favorable for the psychosomatic condition of the subjects. This feeling of heat (p = 0.00001), as well as the feeling of comfort (p = 0.04), differed significantly on the irradiated arm at all three evaluation intervals. Algometric measurements on the irradiated arm did not differ significantly (p ≥ 0.05). Discussion and conclusion: The results showed that irradiation with a polychromatic non coherent light therapy irradiator beneficially affect the psychosomatic condition of the subjects; it also affects the surface temperature of the irradiated region, but does not effect on pain threshold with pressure.
