Hydrogen will become one of energy carriers in future, because it is possible to get it from all primary energy sources, both renewable and unrenewable. Hydrogen use with fuel cells enables generation of electricity with high efficiency. Since hydrogen does not exist in nature in a stable molecular form, it is necessary to get it from reforming - the most efficient way is to use steam reforming to transform natural gas or methane into hydrogen. Liquefied natural gas is one of the forms to storage natural gas, but because of heat transfer there is always an emergence of boil-off gas which needs to be removed. The operation of fuel cell on methane was represented through the example of boil-off gas. We evaluated the feasibility of using a fuel cell from the energetic, environmental and economic perspective. This feasibility study will enable further research and simulations of using fuel cells in applications with liquefied natural gas, especially in terms of combined heat and power.
