Nowadays, the importance of the packing appearance became greater than ever and represents one of the key elements of gift packaging. Since packaging also showcases for the quality of the product, it can sometimes be even more important than the product itself. Therefore, it is essential that it is well-made, simple, functional and environment friendly. In this diploma thesis the design and production of packaging for the Slovenian handmade jewellery designer, Katja Koselj, are described. In the thesis's state of the art, the concept of packaging, its functions, materials and printing techniques, are thoroughly described. For a deeper insight the comparison between the Slovenian and the international packaging market was conducted. After extensive literature review, the design of the packaging and its production followed. Here, we presented the construction of sketches for selected packaging, which then continued with the choices of the materials and concluded with the choice of the production's methods. After our construction was done we included design. The result of this thesis is the final sophisticated yet useful package design and its production for handmade jewellery. In the end, designer Katja Koselj can use packaging products for her handmade jewellery.
