The aim of our diploma work was to find out the knowledge of doping of slovenian athletes. We obtained certain data and related knowledge using literature about doping and psychology.
The topic of our diploma work is about problemacy of using doping in order to enhance athletic performance. In the first part, we present doping and its history of using it, and methods of finding banned substances in athlete's body. We looked for research papers about this topic, which we compared with our research in the debate. We looked for banned substances and methods, which are noted in a list, made by slovenian anti-doping agency and we included them in our diploma work. We presented few of the most known doping cases. We used the Kohlberg's theory of moral development to compare it with our sample, to find out the stage, on which people think when it comes to the question of using performance enhancing drugs.
After the introduction a research follows which is the result of our own research work, including 73 people, mostly students on the Faculty of Sport in Ljubljana, Slovenia. We distributed a questionaire as a internet survey. The questionnaire was in for of an anonymous survey. The questionnaire included some closed and some open types of questions. Some questions were categorical, others were scaled. We compared the results to preexisting hypothesis. These hypothesis were mainly based on the knowledge of doping. Our research points out that atlhethes do not know enough about the problem of doping. Knowledge of the atlhletes is better than non-athletes, but still not as much as we expected. We also found out which is the most doped sport (cycling) and that the usage performance enhancing substances did not reduce in the past few years.
