Abstract

Title:The influence of new graphic paradigm on the work with students
Abstract:
The old paradigm in graphic design has been combined with a new one due to the development of media, materials and technology. In the thesis we present the comparison between the old and the new graphic paradigm and the elements of both. The new and the old paradigm are both manifested on the case of Thomas Kilpper's design. The individual elements are described through the history of art as the images of gigantism world-wide and with different forms of gigantism (projection, the expansion with media, textile prints and industrial printing). There were 96 1st year students of Šolski center Slovenske Konjice-Zreče in the school year 2015/16 actively participating in the study. The students produced a matrix, that they stamped on the more resilient material – fabric of large (giant) dimensions. Depending on the programme they attended at the time, they collectively participated in the group graphic creation. The completed works were exhibited and presented in the public space. Initially, before the group project – A Bloc Graphic, the students got familiar with the theoretical basics of graphic design in correlation to combining the traditional paradigm and new materials, techniques and, consequently, a new paradigm that is a part of contemporary art. After the bloc graphic had been finalized, a survey was carried out among the students to evaluate the comprehension of the traditional and the new paradigm on the example of their own product. It is represented how the media (art concepts understanding, art materials and accessories understanding) affect the level of performance of an art task completion. To be able to create a collective graphic work the students had to collaborate within the teams, the work and help had to be shared efficiently and mutually. The thesis also describes how the students embrace public attention that the gigantism, collective graphic design and presentation of it in the public space attract, and nevertheless, how their works of art were given another dimension by the new paradigm integration into art.
