The theoretical part of the thesis describes pre-school education in Slovenia, its history and the Kindergarten Curriculum. The next part presents the basic principles of psychoanalysis and its views on the child's development.
I wanted to determine whether professional workers in pre-school institutions are acquainted with the psychoanalytic theory and the educational concept related to psychoanalysis, establish their views on the psychoanalytic theory and the educational concept in relation to psychoanalysis, as well as to find out which aspects of the psychoanalytic theory they use at work. The results obtained through a questionnaire were interpreted and analysed quantitatively. Professional workers mostly feel that they are familiar with the psychoanalytic theory, but were unable to name the basic aspects of the psychoanalytic theory they consider useful in pre-school education. I believe they lack knowledge of psychoanalysis: they do not support longer induction period of children into pre-school institutions, mainly fail to understand that sexual behaviour of children and the expression of sexuality are typical in the pre-school period, and have an unprofessional opinion on aggressiveness, which is a typical stage in early development. It became evident from the answers that the respondents only know how to respond properly when it comes to toilet training, as they always have to consider the developmental stage and the readiness of each child.
