In the diploma thesis, we carried out measurements for GPS and RNAV system, with which we estimated the error of each system. In the thesis the procedure of measuring and defining of errors is described. After that, we compared errors of each system, found out why such errors occurs and we found out, that RNAV system is not the most accurate at air navigation. Its better alternative is GPS, but the downside is that GPS is not so commonly used in aviation. In this work, we get better idea how precise is RNAV in comparison with GPS. We expect that, RNAV system with input of VOR/DME signal will be in use for few more years in certain airspaces (with smaller density of air traffic), but later on, system will have to be replaced with more modern PBN system.
