The trend of utilising renewable energy resources is increasing with each passing year, in line with a growing number of independent autonomous (stand-alone) systems, in which energy is stored for later use. Energy storage systems are one of the key elements when designing such systems. There are plenty of battery chemistry technologies available. The latest lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery chemistry is presented.
The thesis discusses the example of an isolated photovoltaic system for households with emphasis on energy storage lifetime. Based on the lifetime data of an LiFePO4 battery, which is determined by life cycles, depending on the depth of discharge, we ran a simulation of battery performance for a period of 20 years. The simulation was performed using the Matlab program.
