Document management is one of the cornerstones of any modern - especially administrative - business. The requirement for up to date review of past, current and planned business events and traceability of documents are known as the basic principle also in the various standards (eg. ISO), which govern the quality of operations. This principle is followed in the Regulation on Administrative Operations, which provides (UUP, Article 92) that any work of the authorities, when exercising their administrative tasks, should be properly documented.
A completely new path has been introduced by the system of e-storage, which is still at a preliminary stage, since it brings a lot of positive as well as negative changes. No matter what, paper as an information carrier can be maintained for centuries, while the information in an electronic form has a very limited durability. Rapid technological progress is namely followed by a change in the format and software, meaning that it will be impossible to read the present records in several decades without a regular and systematic conversion to new formats and transfer to new media.
The thesis shows the consistency of the actual state in practice, with respect to the applicable law. It presents the opportunity for the electronic storage and opportunity for improvement in document management.
