Traffic participants, which is essential for road traffic safety in Slovenia, depends predominantly on the design and features of public roadways. Public roadway characteristics vary with the type of roadway and its location. It is therefore necessary to assure that roads are properly designed and maintained, because the level of safety on Slovenian roads is improved when appropriate safety measures are taken. The introduction of this Thesis describes one of the regional road sections in Slovenia. The first part deals with traffic accident statistics for the entire Slovenian road network, followed by an analysis of the road section described in the introduction. Based on the analysis, we determine the level of service for the given roadway. We also highlight the junctions with the main traffic flow direction, which occur in high numbers for the given roadway. The main part of the Thesis is devoted to road traffic safety for the given section and to the treatment of safety-critical spots, determined from the traffic accidents log. Most severe accidents are investigated in more detail based on their location and cause. The last part presents ideas for improving safety and traffic flow, and features a technical analysis of these suggestions.
