Nowadays, there is high competitiveness between companies in the manufacturing environment. Companies' main goals are better customer response time, better demand variability management, increased product and service offerings on the one hand and price competitiveness on the other hand. Companies are focused on reducing operational costs and optimal resource usage. The main question is how to find the right balance between cutting total costs and maintaining customer responsiveness.
This master thesis' subject is researching the potential advantages of industrial planning and scheduling in industrial environment using mathematical models when we have short planning horizon. The aim is to research the advantages and disadvantages of industrial planning and scheduling in complex manufacturing environment. Mathematical models, that are being used in this master thesis, provide capacity planning and optimal scheduling at the same time as solution. A solution is given when we are having different number of production cells, workers, that are working in shifts and we assume overtime work.
In this master thesis is emphasized the problem of industrial planning and scheduling, as well as the theoretical overview of different mathematical models. Also, a practical example of planning and scheduling is being addressed and studied. A set of possible solutions, description of the solution implementation, as well as analysis of the results are given in this thesis.
