Abstract

Title:Anxiety of parents with children which require additional professional help
Abstract:
One of the turning points in life is certainly the moment when you become a parent. A living creature suddenly appears in your life and your are responsible for your child, if you are ready or not. Period of parenthood starts when a child comes in to the family. There is a lot of literature about parenting and education of children. The real challenge is to translate theory into practice. Parents are constantly faced with different decisions, with different methods of education, and compromises. I can certainly claim that parenting is hard. Even bigger challenge is being a parent to a child with special needs. In our country we have a law that determines which children need additional professional help and in what form. Parents are faced with various fears, unpleasant emotions, and ultimately with anxiety. In my thesis I did explore how parents of children with additional professional help are feeling and experiencing anxiety. I assumed that parents whose children are just beginning to receive additional professional help are more anxious, because they are faced with a new situation and I also anticipated greater anxiety in the initial period of schooling. I also verified which of the parents are more involved with the school and if the parents are involved in any support groups.
