The present diploma work decribes methods of monitoring the functioning and performance of mobile broadband networks through key performance indicators (KPIs) using the system for performance reporting of the mobile network.
The first part describes the software and hardware architecture and functional properties of the monitoring, reporting and fault detection of system for performance reporting, developed by the telecommunications company Huawei.
Through the PRS system, by using its functions and with the help of network performance indicators, we monitor and calculate the performance of the different mobile technologies.
For quicker and more efficient monitoring of the operation of the network, the system enables control of KPIs in real time, automatically generating reports after a predetermined time, monitor KPIs through Android applications on mobile devices and setting KPI thresholds at which the system automatically triggers an alarm. Monitoring the performance of base stations, enables multi functional geographical information system (GIS), which supports a variety of settings KPI queries with showing levels of difficulty in each GSM, UMTS and LTE cells. The following is a description of key performance indicators, which play an important role in telecommunications and other industries. Telecommunications operator needs KPIs to measure the progress and achievement of key business objectives. Key performance indicators affecting the success of the activities and show success of the services running on different time levels and help in improving the network.
In the last part there are presented two cases of detection of errors by monitoring key performance indicators. By monitoring KPIs we can discover different types of defects and effects on the operation of mobile technologies, such as signal interference, hardware failures, capacity bottlenecks, incorrectly set parameters, etc.
