This final paper, which represents thesis at higher professional studies, presennts the latest technology in the field of optical communications, on basis of which it is possible to have continuous, fast, efficient and above all cost-effective network monitorning of the physical layer in the access passive optical networks. It is a network technology with embededd optical reflectometry, where measurements can be carried out from the central office (CO), and from the user side. In both cases, monitoring is carried out smoothly and without interruptions in the transmission of useful data.
For the purpose of this thesis it is first described passive optical network (PON) architecture and network elements that are present therein. It also describes the operation, purpose and limitations optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) and optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) in a variable modulation frequency.
The core of the thesis presents expert interpretation and implementation of network monitorning concept sistem with emmbedded optical reflectometry functions, where is described in detail the process of obtaining data from the active components in the optical network, integration and modulation of optical reflectometry functions on top of the data signal in downstream, and integration method where measurement is carried out from the user or upstream direction. Accurately it describes the process of placing a new network element, which will in the future serve for network upgrades and full independence of the network from the end user.
In conclusion of work are given the advantages and disadvantages of network monitoring sistem with embedded reflectometrics functions for PONs.
