Academic libraries are an important factor in forwarding knowledge and information to participants of the process, and are often the carriers of informational literacy. We have researched the field of informational literacy at the Faculty of mechanical engineering, University of Ljubljana. The purpose of this master's thesis is to acquire the opinions of students enrolled in the mechanical engineering program, specifically about informationa literacy. Both the opinions of the students and the staff employed at the academic library of the faculty of mechanical engineering were taken into account. A method of using surveys was used when researching the current state of literacy among students, whereas the librarians were subject to a partially structured interview. The sample of students consisted of 31 freshmen students and 32 junior students of the first stage of the Faculty of mechanical engineering program, whereas the sample of staff members consisted of 6 people. The outcome of the study indicate that there is a possibility of implementation of information literacy in the study program of the Faculty of mechanical engineering. The most interest has been displayed towards an organized and informing presentation of the library at the start of college. The staff members of the library are of the opinion that the level of informational literacy is on average not adequate among the students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. However, they've also noted that the level of informational literacy is varied among students and depends on prior knowledge. This is also confirmed by the results of different surveys. The study has given us insight to the subjective assessment of the state of informational literacy and the process of literary process at the faculty of Mechanical Engineering University of Ljubljana. The gathered information has proven useful for many groups of people, including the educational staff and the staff of the library, the management of the faculty and future researchers of this field.
