The idea of providing some easy-to-use tools for self-care of patients at home led us into
developing two simple measuring devices, which can detect a variety of lungs diseases,
such as pneumonia, Asthma or Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. To detect these
type of illnesses a doctor requires a stethoscope and a spirometer. We developed both
devices, equipped with electronics and wireless communication. Thus they can be used
with various smart devices, such as a computer, smart phone, and tablet with appropriate
user-friendly applications that would also offer some automatic self-diagnostic features.
The thesis comprises physical research of the optimal design of the mechanical parts of
both instruments for their best operation, namely mouthpiece and stethoscope head),
development of electronic circuits, printed circuit boards and software.
