Master's thesis provides an overview of the latest trends and concepts in the field of indoor positioning systems. Every new technology is initially tested in the frame of company's pilot projects and later paving the way to the everday life environment. Some systems are already in use, others are still at their early stage. In the first part of the thesis, we have prepared an analysis of existing technologies and methods that can be implemented in a variety of indoor positioning solutions from a few meters down to a milimeter accuracy. We describe the versatile systems that are intended for commercial solutions as well as those that are created with specific purposes which also affects the price and accessibility. The focus of research of technologies has been primarily on applicative level and less on technological background. In each of them we also find some interesting application or a case study.
The second practical part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of All Hours and LIPS, which include software and hardware of two different indoor tracking solutions. Within All Hours, the software initialization and examination of the process of tracking employees via Bluetooth Smart is realized. By LIPS we propose the optimal layout of infrastructure in a distribution center of retail enterprise enviornment. It describes the challenges and problems faced by implementator. At the end a comparison of solutions is given with some suggestions for their improvement.
