The following thesis presents the use of puppet activity in frame of district youth center.
The theoretical part of this thesis presents the work of district youth centers in Ljubljana and the population of children and adolescents that are regular visitors of these centers. The thesis focuses on vulnerable children and adolescents and defines factors of vulnerability, since many children and adolescents from district youth centers have trouble dealing with their vulnerability. Furthermore, the thesis defines the role of the puppet when it is used in working with children. Moreover, the focus of this thesis is on the role of the puppet when it is used in working with vulnerable children and adolescents. In this thesis, the puppet is highlighted as a creative media, which one can incorporate in the work of a youth worker in a district youth center.
With the qualitative research and action research methodology, the empirical part of this thesis researches the use of puppet activity in a district youth center. Therefore, the characteristics of the process of the puppet’s use and the puppet’s meaning for the children and adolescents were highlighted. In addition, the thesis focuses on the influence of the puppet activity when working with vulnerable children and adolescents. The thesis also focuses on possible differences on how children and adolescents accept and experience the puppet differently as their peers, as they are more vulnerable due to adverse circumstances.
