The Curriculum for Slovene from 1998 and the proposal for the Curriculum for Slovene from
2008 recommend that students in the final year of nine-year primary school as functional goals know
writers and theis books from the period of older Slovene literature, including Primož Trubar. Among
the recommended literary texts are two by Trubar – a paragraph from Catechism with Two
Explanations and one from the Gospel of Matthew – and a paragraph from the grammar by Adam
Bohorič with the title Aritice Horule Succesive. Among the curriculum goals are the acquisition of
literary knowledge and familiarity with literary terminology. Students in the 9th grade of primary
school have to be familiar with, and be able to describe and use, terms such as literacy, Protestantism,
Enlightenment, Romanticism, realism, new Romanticism, and post-Second World War. Here the
question arises as to whether Protestantism is a social movement or a literary period. There is also the
issue of the terms Reformation and Counter Reformation.
