A sample of 1463 m$^3$ in size was used to investigate the applicability of individual criteria for the quality of sil ver fir and Norway spruce logs in assessing their actual value. Results of the study indicate that ali criteria show the value of logs, but correlations are rather weak. They account for, at most, 35-40% of the variance of the value of logs. The best criterion of their value is thickness. If logs are categorized into classes according to quality, there is considerable overlap as to their value.
