Simon Jenko, a poet and storyteller - also called the poet of Sorško polje - is one of the most important poets in the period between France Prešeren and literary modernism in Slovenia. The main goal of my dissertation was to get to know his life and to present his poetry in the second educational period. I was interested in children's reactions that I got during my teaching in class and through pupils' written tasks. I have also established the representation of the poet in the syllabus, school readers and school reading. I have found goals in the syllabus that can be realised with the use of the song Po slovesu.
In the first chapter I presented Jenko`s life and work in detail. Furthermore, I described the literary period in which he was creating and its characteristics that can be seen in the poet's works. I defined the concepts of poetry, narrative prose and young adult poetry in detail. Stages of school poetry interpretation and principles of literary communication in the class were listed and described as well. In the empirical part I dealt with the song Po slovesu in the fourth and fifth class of primary school. In this dissertation I also included a lesson plan and the analysis of work in the class. I have come to the conclusion, that the poet is not represented in the syllabus, school readers and school reading, but the children accepted him well, as a local author.
