The globalization urges people from all over the world to learn foreign languages, which are today seen as a value and an important competence in the international activity in various fields. In this process, primary schools have an active role in placing English in the curriculum on the earlier stage of education. The trend in this field demands qualified teachers, which are difficult to be trained in a short time span. In the diploma paper, I have compared two school systems, the meaning of English, education and the training of English teachers in Slovenia, a developed country and in India, a country in development. The research results carried out among English teachers on primary schools in Slovenia and India are presented. According to the analysis of the questionnaire, some differences have been noted in respecting the legislation on the employment of English teachers in primary schools in India and Slovenia, in motivating Slovene and Indian teachers for their profession, in the range and execution of activities in English lessons in India and Slovenia and in ideas Indian and Slovene teachers have on improving their English lessons, also some differences have been determined about the importance of language capabilities in teaching English.
