The following paper presents a second-order inquiry (an
investigation of research procedures), the main purpose of
which was to answer questions about a) the effectiveness
of different approaches to qualitative research and b) participation
in qualitative research conducted in the field of
social pedagogy.
The authors have taken four groups of researchers, which
analysed the same text, to compare various methods of text
analysis and different approaches to devising a well-founded
theory (by employing three distinct qualitative methods). In
addition to a reflection on the research procedures in question,
the second part of this paper considers the participation
within qualitative research and its effects on the construction
of a plausible theory.
