The paper concerns the structure of beech stands in the phase in which the mean annual volume increment of stand bas reached or is approaching its culmination. Such stands appear fairly uniform. Yet they are uniform only as to the height of trees, while their breast-height diameter (dbh) varies considerably. Most of the stands included in the study are uneven-aged, while some stand cosist even of trees from two different generations. The study involves stem wood analysis of 3,562 trees sampled at 17 sites. Measurements were repeated in five sample plots per site.
