The aim of the project is to research the risks of social exclusion of (formally known)
unemployed youth in Ljubljana and the factors influencing it. The basic theoretical concepts
of the project were the multidimensional conception of social exclusion and the model of nonstandardised
transitions from youth to adulthood. The methodological approaches of the
YUSE project (Youth Employment and Social Exclusion in Europe; Hammer, 2003) were
followed to a great degree so the results of this study are comparable to those of the YUSE
project. Two basic approaches were used. In the framework of the cross-sectional quantitative
approach the postal survey of the whole population of unemployed youth in Ljubljana was the
main method of data collection. So the data on 656 young persons was collected. In the framework of the qualitative approach the method of focus interviews was used, and four groups of unemployed youth were interviewed. The conclusions of the project determine the scope and characteristics of social exclusion of youth and also point out the most at-risk groups of unemployed youth. Indirectly it is possible on the basis of the results of the study to evaluate the actual active employment policy carried out in Ljubljana. The report ends with the recommendations for the further policy development in this field.
