The aim of the article is to contribute to the research framework of sociological analysis of the knowledge society in the field of work and employment. The analysis is focused on two dimensions: social embeddedness of the concept and development of knowledge society and the current scope and aspects of critics of the knowledge society concept. The challenges of knowledge society concern new inequalities in inclusion and distribution of positive results of knowledge society (e.g. problems in balancing of work and private life, intensification of work and negative aspects of new work and employment practices) and perpetuation of already existing inequalities in new areas (e.g. digital divide or occupational segregation based on sex, age or education).
