Abstract

Abstract:
Strike frequency had been growing fast in the second half of the 1980s in Slovenia. During the 1990s the number of strikes was increasing up to 1997, and then started to decline sharply. The decline of the long strike wave at the end of the 1990s has been overlapped with escalating interest fragmentations between employees in manufacturing industry. Along with the general decline in strikes, a portion of strikes in public service sector increased during the second half of the 1990s. This change has happened within the escalating interest fragmentation in the manufacturing industry. Being non-contextualised by articulated employees' interests from manufacturing industry, the strikes in public service sector have induced deepening of the interest cleavages between different categories of employees. These processes caused the problems to the social dialog and simultaneously to the implementation of a social market economy in Slovenia.
