Izvleček
The aim of the paper is to explore political metaphor change and persistence in the context of Yugoslaviaʼs breakup. The paper looks into the complex relationship of the historical context as imagined by the Cambridge School andthe role of political metaphors in imagining and performing in the context of the breakup of Yugoslavia. Theoretically paper argues for a new approach topolitical metaphors as historical context informers and performers. It evaluates the role, extension and influence of metaphors in the historical context. It analyses the change in political metaphors in various historical stages of the breakup of Yugoslavia. Metaphors are evaluated in the old and new historical context of newly independent states. The paper is especially interested in political metaphors employed for imagining the state, nation andindependence
