This master’s thesis examines the vocabulary of sport climbing in Slovenian texts and identifies its lexical and syntactic characteristics. The corpus consists of 240 lexemes extracted from the professional journal Beta, the diploma thesis Študij športnega plezanja po bolonjskem programu na Fakulteti za šport, the brochure Pravila balvanskega plezanja, and the handbook Osnove plezanja. The aim is not to provide a dictionary-style list of the entire vocabulary, but rather to analyse actively used lexis across different text types. Within the corpus, jargon predominates, while the boundary between a jargonism, a term, and general-language use is not always clearly defined. The main characteristics are borrowing, mainly from English, lexical doublets, productive word formation, metaphorical use and partial synonymy. Syntactically, lexemes appear according to the text type as a self-evident part of climbing communication, as explanations or as parts of instructions.
