This paper presents the automated creation of lower-third graphics for use in video and television production. Creating a large number of visually consistent graphics with different content by hand can be time consuming and can increase the possibility of grammar mistakes and other errors. The aim of the paper was therefore to develop a system that automates this process.
The system was developed for the Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve environment and uses a Python script to connect an input CSV file with a graphics template in DaVinci Resolve. The script reads the data from the input file and inserts it into the corresponding nodes of the template. For each data record, row in the input file, a new version of the visually consistent lower-third is created. The created graphics are placed on the timeline, and can also be exported according to user-defined settings.
The result is a functional system that generates lower thirds based on input data and especially enables faster production of a large number of graphics. It represents a basis for further development and can be adapted to other types of input data and other software environments.
