The diploma project discusses autonomous vehicles and their importance for the future development of the road transport sector. The project first presents the concept of autonomous vehicles, followed by a brief history and the levels of vehicle autonomy. It then describes the key technologies required for the operation of autonomous vehicles, with emphasis on connecting these technologies into a unified system.
The following part analyses the main advantages of autonomous vehicles, as well as their greatest disadvantages and challenges. An important part of the project also focuses on the ethical and legal challenges faced by autonomous vehicles, especially the issue of liability in the event of a traffic accident, insurance of autonomous vehicles, and vehicle decision-making in dangerous traffic situations.
The diploma project also discusses communication between autonomous vehicles and communication between infrastructure and autonomous vehicles. Such communication enables the exchange of data on traffic conditions. The project also focuses on the possibility of introducing autonomous vehicles in Slovenia. It was established that Slovenia is not yet ready for the mass introduction of autonomous vehicles.
Based on the discussed topic, it can be concluded that autonomous vehicles have great potential for the future of road transport, but their introduction will not be simple. Successful integration into the transport system will require further technological development, clear legislation, appropriate insurance, cybersecurity protection, adapted infrastructure, and user trust. Therefore, autonomous vehicles are not only a technological solution, but also an important legal, ethical, social, and transport-related challenge of the future.
