The cross-border region of Goriška brda–Collio Goriziano represents an interesting case for studying languages and multilingualism, as it is a contact point of the Slovenian and Italian languages. After the Second World War, the area was divided between two countries, leaving an important part of the autochthonous Slovene national community in Italy. Following the separation, both sides developed independently.
In this context, winemakers play a particularly important role, as multilingualism is reflected not only in everyday use but also serves as an important tool in business. The research examines their attitudes towards different languages and multilingualism, not only from an economic perspective but also from the perspective of identity, symbolic value and cultural preservation. It analyses different ways of translating official websites and social media content, as well as the translation challenges winemakers face. In addition, the research also focuses on cross-border cooperation among winemakers and on the association Senza meja in order to provide a better overview of the advantages and challenges of such cooperation. For this purpose, ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with five winemakers from Goriška brda and five from Collio Goriziano.
