In this master’s thesis, we developed a wooden didactic game called Lesovid for learning about wood species and their properties, and evaluated its applicability in technology education classes in the sixth grade of primary school. The aim of the research was to determine whether the use of a didactic game could improve the understanding and retention of learning content, the recognition of wood species, and students’ motivation for learning. In the theoretical part, we reviewed school curricula, existing wooden didactic teaching aids, the influence of wood on well-being and learning, and toy safety standards. In the practical part, we designed and produced the game using lime wood and samples of the most common Slovenian wood species. The effectiveness of the game was evaluated through design and technology lessons using a knowledge assessment questionnaire and a survey questionnaire. The results showed that after using the game, students were more successful in recognizing wood species, distinguishing between coniferous and deciduous trees, and classifying wood according to density. In tasks involving practical comparison of wood properties, students achieved more correct answers than before playing the game. When playing the game, students expressed greater interest in learning, higher motivation, and a more positive attitude toward the learning process. We found that the didactic game Lesovid represents an effective teaching aid for experiential learning about wood and its properties.
